SEO Value of Skillpages
Skillpages (formerly Weedle) is a new Irish social media site dedicated to the sharing of skills. Kind of like a LinkedIn but skills orientated. The idea is that you create a set of skills and people interested in those skills connect with you. A very simple concept but also very powerful.
There are many good things about Skillpages
- It is one of the fastest growing social media sites at the moment
- It is well designed
- Its free
- It has amazng SEO value
I am going to focus on the last thing - Skillpages SEO value. I have to admit straight off that I am related to the person who designed their SEO but I have to say I wouldn't be writing about it if it wasn't exceptional.
Skillpages if used correctly can be instrumental in getting you found for your skill in your area. If used really well it can also help push your competition down the search results.
The best way to demonstrate is with an example. This example is for our company - Organic SEO Specialists - we are based in Dublin. So if you were to search for Organic SEO Dublin, you'd expect to find our company but you'd also expect to find any other companies who do natural or organic search optimisation in the Dublin area. So lets have alook at the search results.

So the results are pretty clear, we are an SEO company so you'd expect us to do well for our chosen term and we aren't too bad at all.
1. Our main site (seo news page)
2. Our Places page (an essential element of your online presence)
3, 4, 5. Our main site
6. Free ad for an intern for our company
7, 8, 9. Skillpages entries for our company.
10. Directory entry for our company
11. Directory entry for a competitor
So we ended up with 11 results including the places page on page 1 of Google search for "organic seo dublin" - we own 10 of them and 3 of the easiest to acquire were the Skillpages.
Other reasons for using Skillpages are the fact that you can backlink easily to your site (from a well renouned site), you can include media in your entries, you can meet new people with skills you require.
So my advice is to do some keyword research and use the highest value words to create your skills, choose your location carefully and watch the results !!
