SEO as a Service
Is Ireland ready for SEO as a service. This is a question I have been asking myself while trying to get an SEO Services company off the ground and my conclusion is not what I was expecting.
Irish companies in general still have an immature online presence compared to those in other countries such as the US and UK. The main reason behind this has been the lack of broadband connectivity outside of Dublin. What is the point of being online if 90% of your clients will never access a website?
Now that broadband is being rolled out (slowly) nationally a lot of small companies are finally paying attention to their online presence. But it seems as though SEO isn’t a service they know much about, most don’t realise the competition for high rankings in Google. Of those that do think they understand SEO, most seem to focus in on Pay Per Click – Google Ads. They don’t realise that there is a thing called Organic SEO and that it is more effective, both in terms of return on investment and in terms of their online reputation.
I have found that most Irish companies don’t want SEO as a service, their sites are either old and they have lost touch with their developers or their developers specialise in Flash and don’t understand SEO. What most small companies require is a full end to end service, from the creation of the site, keyword analysis and implementation, all the way through to social media marketing. Online is such a black hole or black box to them that for the next few years it seems that specialisation is not an option and Organic SEO Specialists will have to bring other talents to the table such as CMS development, training and basic guidance through the many pitfalls that a business can slip into while trying to establish themselves online.
