SEO Ireland - Help with DMOZ

DMOZ Directory

DMOZ is one of the largest human edited directories across the Internet. It is free and has a high page rank which is why it is so popular. It  powers core directory services for some the most popular portals and search engines on the Web, including AOL Search, Netscape Search, Google, Lycos, and HotBot, and hundreds of others.

The problem with DMOZ is that it takes so long for a directory entry to get verified. This is due to the number of entries it receives every day. I have heard of cases where people have waited for up to a year to have their directory entry processed. The directory is staffed by a team of so called “net-citizens” who pick and choose what website is worthy of been cataloged. As the quote below displays, the directory regards itself in very high esteem:

“The Open Directory follows in the footsteps of some of the most important editor/contributor projects of the 20th century. Just as the Oxford English Dictionary became the definitive word on words through the efforts of volunteers, the Open Directory follows in its footsteps to become the definitive catalog of the Web.”

I would recommend that every website submits to DMOZ. But, I can’t guarantee when they will actually post your entry into the directory. The sooner you enter your website, the shorter your wait will be.

To enter your website simply go to http://www.dmoz.org/. Find the category that relates to your business and then click on "Suggest URL". You will then have to fill out a form detailing your business name and description.

Another directory where you get your website listed for free is http://www.searchoptimization.ie/. It is SEO friendly, so it can with marketing your website online.
